Description

The Principal Engineer - Geological and Rock is a senior technical resource and serves as the technical advisor for the team. Plans works, provides technical reviews and quality management. Shares technical expertise and experience with others in the company via internal technical communication and presentations. Responsible for the development of high-quality design outputs. Able to do hands-on design.

Job Description

Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.

Identifies discrepancies in results.

Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

Specific

The candidate should have specific experience in the following.

Solid experience on site reconnaissance and geological mapping,

Solid knowledge on rock mechanics and rock mass classification systems,

Preparing computer aided geological mapping and geological ground models including profile and cross section preferably through AutoCAD/ ARCGIS and/ or software such as Leapfrog,

Performing rock slope stability, specifically rock fall analysis,

Preparing rock fall mitigation design through software, preparing corresponding specs and drawings,

Conducting rock slope support design for open cuts,

Proficiency in utilizing RocScience suit including Rocfall 2D and/or 3D, Dips, RocPlane, Swedge, Topple, RSdata and RocSlide,

Geotechnical Investigations (including in-situ and laboratory test knowledge),

Geohazard assessment,

Preparing geotechnical design reports.

Defining geotechnical design parameter,

Preparing proposals,

Preparing BoQ,

Preparing contracts relating to geotechnical investigation, survey and construction works,

Good knowledge of international codes and standards

A balance of experience between geotechnical design and site reconnaissance is mandatory.

The following would be considered beneficial:

Experience in Leapfrog software,

Conducting terrain hazard assessment,

Geotechnical design experience including bearing capacity, settlement and liquefaction analysis,

Knowledge on geophysical tests and interpretations,

Knowledge on hydrogeology,

Geotechnical design experience on cut & cover/drill and blast tunnel project and/or hydraulic structures,

Knowledge on seismic design

The use of the following software packages or their equivalent would be an advantage.

RocScience Suite:

RocFall 2D or 3D,

Dips,

RocPlane,

SWedge,

RocTopple,

RSData,

Slide2 or Slide3 (alternatively Slope W),

AutoCAD,

Knowledge on ArcGIS.

Experience

Generally, 15+ years minimum experience but allowance would be given for the Masters and PhD qualified people and for the right candidate.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science or Engineering from an accredited University in one or more of the following subjects and a Master of Science / Engineering or PhD would be preferred.

Foundation Engineering,

Working towards CEng, PE, or equivalent licensing/registration as a professional engineer.

Relevant registration required in Qatar, Bahrain and UAE.
